About EDI
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion seem to be the buzz words everyone is talking about, but there is a definite need for organizations, companies and schools to be up to date and truly understand our ever-changing world. Workplaces and educational institutes are changing at an ever-increasing rate from the way we communicate, to corporate culture and the way we work. Between the pandemic and ever-changing technologies, it is obvious why companies must constantly innovate and update their equity diversity and inclusion mandates. Companies with a more inclusive culture will see increases in innovation, better understanding of consumer needs, and an increase in revenue. This starts with your talent pool. When employees feel heard, seen and valued they are more likely to go far and beyond the call of duty, and more likely to stay long term.
Equity: Creating fair access, opportunity and advancement for all people. Creating a fair playing field for all.
Diversity: Understanding accepting and valuing differences of race, culture, age, abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship/marital status, religion etc. Diversity is an embodiment of many or all of the groups mentioned above. It is about talking to each other, learning about and understanding the beauty of our differences.
Inclusion: Where everyone feels a sense of belonging, and value. Many organizations, companies and schools may be diverse and equitable, but may not be inclusive. When evaluating if a workplace is inclusive remember a large majority of people feel respect is the first thing they consider when creating an inclusive workplace. That means not only respecting people’s differences respectfully, but from their point of view do they feel a sense of community, and connection? Do they feel like they contribute on a daily basis, and do they feel a shared sense of purpose with their co-workers and peers?
